Life Along the Streetcar Feature Interview with Kevin Hamilton
Kevin Hamilton has been making music for 30 years, the last 20 herein Tucson. He performs, produces and promotes all manner of performers. He has been involved with nationally televised events like the Super Bowl, worked with artists such as Patti LaBelle and this year, his company, Southwest Soul Circuit is producing the 49th annual Juneteenth Festival at the TCC.
If you aren’t familiar with Juneteenth- It’s a Holiday recognized by most US states celebrating the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas on June 19, 1865- over 2 years after the implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation. The celebration has been happening in Tucson for 49 years and in 2019 has moved indoors to the air conditioned Tucson Convention Center.
The Festival is next Saturday, June 15th, so we sat down with Kevin to get a look at his time here in Tucson, what it means to be a part of the Juneteenth Celebration and how it impacts our community.
